Part 1 of 2 ~ Cleansing Few of us pay attention to the energy flow within our homes. We take our living space for granted and, if it’s lucky, it gets a quick dust and a once-over with the vacuum cleaner from time-to-time, and the odd coat of paint on the walls when we have a few moments to steal from our hectic schedules. Often, the quality of our living environments comes way down on our list of priorities. After a mad day, we fling ourselves onto the sofa and sprawl there for a few indulgent moments until it’s time for bed. Those few indulgent moments are often the only time we have to actually appreciate our home and it does very little to recharge our batteries and give us the positive boost that we should be getting from our personal sanctuaries. .
Firstly, your home should be seen as an extension of you and your energy system. You have to invest time and energy into your home if you want it to become a recharging powerhouse that you can tap into as soon as you walk in the door from work. Your home should greet you with a wave of energy that envelops you and revitalises you. You should feel that inner sigh of contentment and pleasure at being home again. If coming home has just become an unconscious changing of environment for you, or an extension of work, or, worse still, something you dread, then something is seriously wrong. Nearly everyone who visits our home comments on its feeling of warmth and love. Our home recharges people – you can see it happening as they sit at our dining room table or on our sofa. People often cry in our home for no apparent reason. (It’s not my cooking, promise!). Later, they tell us that something just welled up inside them and the tears came as a release. We’re used to it. The energy of our home envelops people and allows them to release stuff that has hung like a weight upon them. Your home should be a safe, healing environment where you can let go of all the emotional trauma you collect from the outside world. Your home should be a place that helps you find peace and balance. This article is in two parts and has been designed to help you transform the energy of your living space. Each instalment contains energy techniques that can make a very big difference to the quality of your home life. I’ve been healing homes for ten years now and my clients tell me that they can’t believe the difference it makes to their lives having the energy of their home nurturing, supporting and recharging them each day. However, things don’t change over night and you have to have the patience and enthusiasm to see this process through. The rewards are great. Step 1: Cleansing Your home reflects your state of mind and your attitude to self-love and self-nurturing. It doesn’t take a genius to work out the association between the clutter and disarray in your home and what’s going on in your head. We all create our own reality and it usually starts in our home. Do you like what you’re creating? Get the reality of your home right and you start radiating that positive vibe outward into the rest of your world. Energetically, homes absorb all kinds of feelings and repeated thought patterns. Your home absorbs the feelings you have about yourself and your life situations and it reflects it back at you. It absorbs anger, your arguments and your quarrels. It also absorbs all those angry silences when you don’t talk to your partner about how you feel. It absorbs the feelings associated with illness or guilt, anxiety or bereavement. The energy of your home reflects every feeling you and family bring to it. And it stays there until it’s cleansed in some way or until enough positive energy is introduced into the home environment to transmute it. Sometimes, the negative emotions of previous occupants remain to seriously affect the mood of the new residents of a home. I’ve been called to homes on a number of occasions by people who thought their house was haunted, only to find that the previous occupants had left their a legacy of negative feelings when they moved out. Physically cleansing and energetically cleansing your home needs to be done on a regular basis. I work from home and many of my clients work through traumatic thoughts and feelings as part of their healing process. This trauma leaves a residue in my treatment room so I cleanse the energy of the room with incense and candle flames after each session. Therapists who don’t cleanse the energy of their treatment rooms often suffer from a weakened immune system and are prone to viral infections and depression. They may also wonder why their therapies aren’t as effective as they should be, without realising that their treatment rooms are seriously clogged with emotional discharge and negative energy. House cleansing is best done during a waning moon (the phase of the moon from just after full moon to just before new moon). Start by clearing any clutter in your home and giving it a good spring clean. Take your time and get rid of anything that no longer serves you. See how the furniture is arranged in each room and decide if that arrangement still suits the purpose of that living space. Also, make sure that you’ve sat in every chair in your home so that you can see the view from that chair and decide how it makes you feel. Take stock of your possessions and see if they still have meaning and value for you. Look at gifts you’ve received and make sure that each one represents a healthy relationship with the person who gave it to you. If it doesn’t, it may be feeding a negative cord connecting you with that person and it may be best to cleanse the energy of the object with incense smoke (circle the smoke right around the object from bottom to top) and then decide whether you want to keep the object on show, so you can work on that relationship, or give the object away to a charity shop (don’t just put the object away in a closet – make a decision!) When the sorting and tidying has been completed, it’s time to clean. Get a bucket of hot, soapy water and thoroughly cleanse doorsteps or the floor around the entrance to the front and back doors. People can bring negativity across your threshold and cleaning the doorsteps is a symbolic way of protecting your home against accumulating negative energy. (Get people to take off their shoes as soon as they cross the threshold so that potential negativity isn’t walked through your house and people are mindful as they take off their shoes that a their bad day stays at the door!) Next, clean all your windows, so that as much light as possible can penetrate into your home before thoroughly cleaning the floors, surfaces and furniture in each room, as dead skin cells accumulate on every surface of the house and these cells can still hold a residue of how the person was feeling when that skin cell was shed. This process may take a few days but is well worth the effort. I’ve known people who had serious problems with moving forward in their lives and they felt obstacles always hampered them. They tried this process and, by the next full moon, they noted a very definite positive shift in their energy so stay with it. When everything is just the way you want it, go and take a bath with purifying sea salt added to the water. As you lie there, gently close your eyes and affirm, “I cleanse myself of all impurities and negativity” If you can, visualise the toxins flowing out through the pores of your skin and dissolving in the water. After the bath, dry yourself thoroughly and vigorously. Encouraging good circulation stirs positive energy. Then, find a quiet, peaceful place within your home where you won’t be disturbed. Light a candle and sit and meditate for a while. It’s time to contact the Guardian of your home. Most homes have a guardian energy. It could be an angelic, fairy or spirit presence that is either connected to the land on which your house is built or was attracted and became attached to the residents who have dwelt in your home. Guardians protect and maintain the energy of your home and give it the “essence” that is unique to each house. You should communicate with your house guardian when you move in, when you redecorate or make structural changes or, as we’re doing, when you’re cleansing and energising your home. Always let the guardian know what’s happening and ask for its help. Your guardian will always try and let you know in some way if your plans would damage the energy of your home. It’s easy to contact the guardian of your home. Firstly, connect with your higher self, then, in love and light, ask to be connected with the guardian of your home. Just breathe and meditate quietly and give the guardian a little time to connect with you. You may not hear or see anything but you will slowly feel a presence. When you feel the time is right, thank the guardian for all it is doing for you and your family and tell the guardian how much you’re enjoying living here (don’t lie if you’re not). Now, tell the guardian that you’d like to cleanse the energy of your house and ask for its help. Thank the guardian again. Now it’s time to contact the archangel you’re going to use to help you cleanse the house. It's your choice but I find Archangel Michael is a good angel to use as he has the power to purify with the element of fire. However, if there has been severe trauma or anger in your home, you may prefer to contact Archangel Zadkiel who transmutes negative energy with the power of the violet flame. Just call upon the angel of your choice and ask it to cleanse the energy of your home of all negativity. Just trust that your request has been granted. It always is. For the next part of the process, use a sage smudge stick for cleansing the energy of each room. You can normally buy smudge sticks at any new age or health shop (herbalists sometimes sell them as well). If you can't get one, a sandalwood incense stick is the next best thing. Light the smudge stick or incense stick and waft the smoke as you circle each room of your home. Make sure you circle every room, including hallways and the toilet. Intention is everything so I really concentrate on feeling the atmosphere changing as you go. I normally affirm out loud, “I purify this room of all negativity”. I use a great white feather to waft the smoke into every corner of each room and visualise all the dark, dense energy dissolving in the smoke. Once you’re satisfied with the cleansing, light a number of candles, each one in a separate holder. and take a candle and place it in each room of the house (including hallways). Leave the candles until they burn out. The candles burn off any negative residue that might remain in each room. With the candles burnt out, open all the doors and windows and ask the element of air (or invoke Archangel Raphael, angel of the element of air) to blow through your home. Give it about 30 minutes if you can but five minutes is fine. Your home is now cleansed. Give thanks for the angelic help you’ve had. In the next instalment, we’ll look at how you can re energise and balance your home magically! © David Hand 2008 To find out more about David’s house cleansing service, visit www.mysticklight.com |
