Today, as we all see about us a fundamental unravelling of civilization, many people, often motivated by fear, are looking to find something new. Out of confusion something that truly works is being sought. Religions, economic systems, and social institutions are simply wearing out. Societal dumbing down and personal denial are beginning to lose their power. Materialism is losing some of its ability to control hearts and minds. It appears that on a massive scale people are beginning to ask some fundamental questions, and perhaps out of today’s clamour and chaos the stage is being set for the appearance of a new foundational vision upon which to build a spiritually evolved more conscious and coherent civilization.

We have all heard time and again the solid, basic, indisputable conclusion that the human being is by nature aggressive, competitive, mean-spirited, greedy, and essentially beyond redemption and reform - that our species’ history is proof of our innate inability to embrace harmony and coherence. This conclusion of course is simply another underlying lie about who we are, a lie perpetrated by the dominators of thought and writers of history who have held sway too long.

But, there is another story - a wonderful story – one which has come to light and is solidly documented in fact, a story about a pre-historical time thousands of years ago when people lived in peace, harmony and understanding, the time of The Goddess on the Earth. The Goddess was the most potent and persistent feature in the archaeological records of the ancient world. She was a symbol of the unity of life in nature, and the personification of all that was sacred and mysterious on Earth.

 "The Mother Goddess, wherever she is found, is an image that inspires and focuses a perception of the universe as an organic, alive and sacred whole, in which humanity, the Earth and all life on Earth participate as ‘her children’. Everything is woven together in one cosmic web, where all orders of manifest and unmanifest life are related, because all share in the sanctity of the original source."  Anne Baring

In writing about the thousands of years of harmonious ancient civilization, mythologist Joseph Campbell states, "One cannot but feel that…there is an evident relevance to the universally recognized need in our time for a general transformation of consciousness. The message here is of an actual age of harmony and peace in accord with the creative energies of nature which for a spell of some four thousand prehistoric years anteceded the five thousand of what James Joyce has termed the ‘nightmare’ (of contending tribal and national interests) from which it is now certainly time for this planet to wake."

Futurist Riane Eisler tells us in her important book The Chalice & The Blade: Our History, Our Future:

"Willis Harmon, who has headed major futurist studies at the Stanford Research Institute, writes that what is needed—and evolving—is a ‘metamorphosis in basic cultural premises and all aspects of social roles and institutions.’ He describes this as a new consciousness in which competition will be balanced with cooperation and individualism will be balanced with love. It will be a ‘cosmic consciousness,’ a ‘higher consciousness,’ which ‘relates self-interest to the interests of fellow man and of future generations.’ And it will entail nothing short of a fundamental transformation of ‘truly awesome magnitude.’"
