Traditionally, Hopi ear candles were used by different cultures including the North and South Americans, the Aborigines, the Asians and many more. The name is said to have originated from a tribe known as Hopi who are still thought to be practicing this therapy for medicinal and spiritual purposes today. It is the combination of fire, heat, smoke and the various healing herbs used, that evoke these magical healing properties of these wonderful candles.
In 1985, a company known as BIOSUN, became involved with the Hopi tribe and it was agreed that this company would be able to research the use of ear candles and has now managed to re-establish this ever increasing popular therapy. Nowadays the ear candles are made up of a strong flax cotton which is immersed into a mixture of pure bees wax and various different natural herbs. It is then rolled into a chimney like tube. A small grommet is placed approx 1/3rd of the way up for safety reasons. It is believed that in years gone by reeds from the rivers where used; these too, were covered in bees wax and were sealed around the ears with mud. There are many types of ear candles that may be purchased today, but it is only the BIOSUN candles that are thought to have regular checks for their safety & hygiene. There are a few contra-indications, so if you have bought some candles yourself I would strongly recommend that you take the precautionary measure of having a professional therapist show you the correct way in which the candles should be used to prevent unnecessary damage to the ears. During a Hopi ear candle session, you will experience a wonderful feeling of having your entire ear, nasal and bronchial passages being cleansed as well as having the nervous system calmed and your immune system stimulated, it is for these reasons that the Hopi ear treatments are becoming ever increasingly popular, especially as the doctors surgeries are becoming less inclined to practice ear syringing. Hopi ear candling is a purely natural way of cleansing the ears and surrounding regions and it has been noted that they aid many problems including the following: Tinnitus (ear noise), itchy ears, blocked ears, hayfever, stress, ears that regularly require syringing. popping ears (especially good before flying), sinusitis, earache, snoring, breathing difficulties, headache, insomnia and it can improve sense of smell and taste. © Nicci Evans 2008 If you would like more information on Hopi ear candling, other treatments, products and a full pricelist please view www.niccievans.co.uk Complementary Therapies & Beauty Therapy ~ Nicci Evans MAR BABTAC Tel: 01202 482077 E-mail:
